Sports Injuries
Injuries can occur during sports. In the acute stages we can apply electrotherapy, acupuncture, soft tissue massage,
and offer advice to help minimise the effects of injury. In the later stages, we can offer structured exercise programs and joint
mobilisations to help restore the body's equilibrium. Back and Neck Pain
Mechanical back and neck pain can come
on immediately after a sudden movement or trauma, or can come on gradually over a period of time due to poor postural habits.
If you are in serious pain and/or are unsure of the cause of your symptoms it is best to consult your GP prior to attending physiotherapy.
Treatments we can offer include postural advice, exercises, acupuncture, trigger point massage, and joint mobilisations.
Work Related Injuries
Sometimes people can injure themselves at work or can develop pain due to spending time in sustained
postures. Early physiotherapy can help to manage such problems quickly to prevent time off work or to ensure prompt return.
A pro-active approach to prevent future reoccurrences is essential.
Arthritic Pain
Arthritiscan occur in most joints but commonly affects the hips, knees, back, neck, and hands. There are many types of arthritis but
osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" is the most common. Arthritis causes wearing of the joints which is painful, and can lead
to weakening of the surrounding muscles. Physiotherapy can help you to self manage your condition with pain relieving advice,
and personalised exercise programs to strengthen weakened muscles.
Golf Injuries
In 1997, Karen and Lesley worked alongside the physiotherapists at the Australian Institute of Sport Golf Division. Since then Karen
has developed a special interest in golf injuries, and screens golfers to help prevent injuries and to identify weaknesses in the body.
Karen has attended various courses on golf physiotherapy and works alongside coaches to provide a holistic approach to performance
enhancement. Karen is also the physiotherapist for the under 14 and 16 Scottish Golf Union national squads.
Stroke Rehabilitation
A stroke can affect individuals in a variety of different ways and can cause deficits in physical function.
Lesley has attended numerous post-graduate courses on stroke rehabilitation, and has 6 years experience
in this area. Lesley assesses everyone individually prior to developing a treatment plan. Physiotherapy can be
aimed at either improving or maintaining physical function. Assessment and treatments can be carried out in clinic
or in the home setting.
